Lineage

He belonged to a noble and pious family. His father was Hazrat Jamaluddin Suleiman May Allah have mercy on him. His mother, Bibi Qarsum Khatun May Allah have mercy on her, was renowned for her piety and devotion.

Early Education

He received his early Islamic education from his mother and local scholars. He memorized the Holy Qur’an at a young age. He displayed exceptional devotion to worship, fasting and remembrance of Allah.

Islamic Education

He studied and mastered Tafseer, Hadith, Fiqh, Arabic Literature, Tasawwuf and Islamic Ethics under leading scholars of Multan and the Islamic world.

Spiritual Journey

He travelled in search of spiritual perfection and sacred knowledge. He became a disciple of Hazrat Khwaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki May Allah have mercy on him. He underwent rigorous spiritual training and attained the highest stations of Tasawwuf.

Sanad-e-Khilafat

He received Khilafat and spiritual authorization from Hazrat Khwaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki May Allah have mercy on him. Through the noble Chishtiyyah Silsilah, the chain includes Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishti Ajmeri May Allah have mercy on him, Khwaja Qutbuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki May Allah have mercy on him and Baba Fariduddin Mas’ud Ganj-e-Shakar May Allah have mercy on him.

Reason for the Title Ganj-e-Shakar

According to well-known traditions, Allah bestowed special blessings upon him due to his devotion and sincerity. The title Ganj-e-Shakar meaning Treasure of Sugar became associated with his miracles, sweetness of character and spiritual excellence.

Teaching and Spiritual Services

He established a renowned Khanqah at Ajodhan which is present-day Pakpattan. He guided thousands of seekers on the path of Allah. He trained scholars, saints and spiritual leaders. He promoted humility, patience, sincerity and love for humanity.

Prominent Disciples and Khulafa

Among his prominent disciples and Khulafa were Hazrat Khwaja Nizamuddin Auliya May Allah have mercy on him, Hazrat Alauddin Ali Ahmad Sabir Kalyari May Allah have mercy on him, Hazrat Shaykh Badruddin Ishaq May Allah have mercy on him and numerous saints and scholars of the Chishtiyyah Order.

Literary Contributions

His literary contributions include spiritual sayings and discourses preserved in various classical works, Fawaid-us-Salikeen, Rahat-ul-Quloob and collections of Punjabi verses and wisdom sayings.

Punjabi Poetry

He is among the earliest and most influential poets of Punjabi literature. His verses emphasize humility, remembrance of Allah and preparation for the Hereafter. Many of his couplets are included in classical Punjabi literature.
