Sayyiduna Abu Bakr As-Siddiq May Allah be pleased with him occupies the highest rank among the Companions of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. His unwavering faith, immense sacrifices, steadfast leadership and unmatched love for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made him the ideal successor and the first Caliph of Islam. His life continues to inspire Muslims with lessons of sincerity, truthfulness, sacrifice and devotion. He was born in the blessed city of Mecca into the noble Banu Taym clan of Quraysh and was renowned for honesty, wisdom, generosity and noble character even before Islam from an early age. He is the most virtuous of the Companions, one of the Asharah Mubashsharah meaning Ten Companions promised Paradise and the closest friend and companion of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. He is universally recognized as the greatest Companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

Hazrat Abdullah ibn Abi Quhafah Uthman ibn Amir al-Qurashi al-Taymi May Allah be pleased with him.

Titles

As-Siddiq meaning The Truthful Verifier. Atiq. Ameer-ul-Mu’mineen. Khalifat-u-Rasoolillah. Afzal-ul-Bashar Ba’dal Anbiya.

Lineage

He belonged to the noble Banu Taym clan of Quraysh. His lineage meets that of the Holy Prophet ﷺ at Murrah ibn Ka’b. He was renowned for honesty, wisdom, generosity and noble character even before Islam.

Acceptance of Islam

He was the first adult male to embrace Islam. He accepted Islam immediately upon the invitation of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. He never worshipped idols after accepting Islam. He remained the closest companion and supporter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ throughout his life.

Services to Islam in Makkah

He used his wealth to support Islam and free oppressed Muslim slaves. He purchased and emancipated several persecuted Muslims, including Sayyiduna Bilal ibn Rabah May Allah be pleased with him. He invited many prominent individuals to Islam, several of whom later became great Companions.

Title As-Siddiq

He received the title As-Siddiq meaning The Truthful Verifier for immediately affirming the event of Al-Isra wal-Mi’raj. The Holy Prophet ﷺ honored him with this blessed title.

Migration to Madinah

He accompanied the Holy Prophet ﷺ during the Hijrah. He shared the blessed journey and stayed with him in the Cave of Thawr. He was mentioned in the Holy Qur’an regarding this historic event.

Participation in Battles

He participated alongside the Holy Prophet ﷺ in the Battle of Badr, Battle of Uhud, Battle of Khandaq, Battle of Khaybar, Conquest of Makkah, Tabuk and all major campaigns of the Prophet ﷺ.

Caliphate

He was the first Rightly Guided Caliph of Islam. He was elected after the Wisaal of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. He served as Khalifah from 11 AH to 13 AH.

Major Achievements During Caliphate

He united the Muslim Ummah after the passing of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. He defeated the apostasy movements known as the Wars of Ridda. He sent expeditions that paved the way for future Islamic conquests. He initiated the compilation and preservation of the Holy Qur’an.

Virtues and Excellence

He was the most virtuous of the Companions. He was one of the Asharah Mubashsharah meaning Ten Companions promised Paradise. He was the closest friend and companion of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. He was the father of Umm-ul-Mu’mineen Sayyidah Aisha Siddiqah May Allah be pleased with her.

Special Distinctions

He was the first Caliph of Islam. He was the Companion of the Cave known as Sahib-ul-Ghar. He led prayers during the final illness of the Holy Prophet ﷺ by his instruction. He is universally recognized as the greatest Companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

Virtues Mentioned in Hadith

The Holy Prophet ﷺ said: If I were to take a close friend besides my Lord, I would have taken Abu Bakr. The Holy Prophet ﷺ repeatedly praised his faith, sincerity and sacrifices.

He was renowned for truthfulness, humility and generosity. He spent his wealth entirely in the service of Islam. He was gentle-hearted yet firm upon truth. He was deeply devoted to Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.
