Mufti Sahib,
We are at Dubai airport and heading towards Hajj. A trainer is guiding here that we have to open our right shoulder in first three rounds and not in complete seven rounds. Can you please guide us what is the correct ruling and procedure?

الجواب
Idhtiba اضطباع is opening of your right shoulder by taking the Ihram cloth from under your right armpit and putting over left shoulder.
1) It has to be done in all 7 rounds of Tawaf.
Allama Syed Ibn Abidin Shaami (1252 AH) has stated:
واعلم ان الاضطباع سنۃ فی جمیع اشواط الطواف
"Be aware ! that surely Idhtiba is Sunnah in all rounds of Tawaf"

2)It has to be done in each Tawaf which will be followed by Sa'ee of Safa and Marwa and not to be done in other Tawaf.
Allama Rahmatullah Sindhi has stated:
وھو سنۃ فی کل طواف بعدہ سعی
''It (Idhtiba) is Sunnah in each Tawaf which will be followed by Sa'ee."

3)And it has to be done just before Tawaf not before entering Masjid al Haram as mentioned by Allama Mulla Ali Qari Hanafi (1014 AH):
انما یسن الاضطباع حال الطواف فقط خلافا توھمۃ العوام من مباشرتہ فی جمیع احوال الاحرام
"Indeed, Idhtiba is ordained during (complete) Tawaf only not at all times and rituals during Ihram as misunderstood by people"
